The Mokihinui-Lyell Backcountry Trust’s dreams of helping the resident flora and fauna of The Old Ghost Road received a major shot in the arm over the weekend, with the announcement that our application to the Department of Conservation’s Community Conservation Partnership Programme (CCPF) was successful. The Minister of Conservation Dr. Nick Smith visited Lyell and made the announcement before a gathering of stakeholders. The CCPF funding will complement the efforts of the MLBT who have undertaken voluntary predator control work over the last several years. It will also build on support from the NZ Lottery Grants Board and the Sargood Bequest from whom the MLBT has already received support to undertake predator control activities.
